FLYING: Triëst

Day two in Venice, or actually: Triëst. As I already mentioned in my previous post, I was really lucky to get an extra day in Venice due to heavy snowfall in Amsterdam (our flight got cancelled). So after a day of cycling around in Quarto D'Altino, I decided to go to Triëst the next day. The cockpit crew wanted to join me on a 1,45 hour train ride all the way to the east of Italy.

Triëst is a beautiful, chique and french looking (in my opinion) city in the east of Italy, next to the sea and close to the slovenian border. It was a beautiful train ride from Quarto D'Altino to Triëst. I can't believe there are so many vineyards in Italy! Amazing! We arrived around 2PM and went to a nice restaurant to grab some lunch. After lunch we walked around and ended up at the main square which was breathtaking!

And while the boys went for a beer in a local pub to warm up (they forgot their gloves and it was pretty cold that day), my ultimate goal was to see the sunset. I walked to the harbor and enjoyed one of the most spectacular and beautiful sunsets I've ever seen. It was such a beautiful and sunny day, perfect to visit a city as beautiful as Triëst. Words can't describe the beauty, so please be warned for an overload of pictures...

H&M Conscious Collection 2013

H&M did it again: they let me fall in love with the conscious collection again! I'm a huge fan of the conscious collection since the very first collection. And every spring I can't wait to see what they came up with! And now together with the beautiful and lovely Vanessa Paradis (gosh I love her songs from back in the days).

My favorite piece and absolute must-buy is the greenish jacket and the shorts. Think they are both perfect for the summer when your skin is sunkissed and the temperatures are above 20 degrees. The clothes are all eco-friendly, pretty perfect, don't you think so? Visit the H&M shops (or online) in march!

FLYING: Quarto D'Altino

After two nights in Glasgow, I went to Venice. Our hotel is located in a small village just outside Venice: Quarto D'Altino. I've been to Venice quite a few times, and I must admit that it's getting boring: seeing the same things over and over again. So I decided to stay in Quarto D'Altino and cycle around town. I love the Italian landscape: the beautiful houses, vineyards, trees and little cafe's. I got a mountainbike from the hotel and cycled to another town as well, but forgot about the name. The weather that day was amazing: blue skies and lots of sunshine. Temperatures around 7 degrees, but with the sun it even felt a bit warmer!

And while I was enjoying a lovely pizza together with the first officer, I recieved quite an interesting e-mail: we were supposed to leave the next morning, but our flight got canceled due to the snow in the Netherlands. We had a complete extra day to spend in Venice! In stead of departing the 26th, we departed the 27th! More about my extra day in Venice soon, but first my pictures from Quarto D'Altino!

INTERIEUR: Organize your dresser

Today I'm going to do something quite unusual: I'm going to show you the inside of my dresser and how I keep my drawers organized. Let me start with this ikea dresser which was just an ordinary white dresser, which I pimped it with some quotes and it looks so much better now! My own -cheap- version of a rivera maison (gosh I love that brand) dresser! If you would like to see my previous interior posts, please click here.

While the first drawer is filled with tanktops, sportgear and sleepwear and is basically not very organised, I'll show you the second drawer which is for my bra's and panties. I bought the white organizers at Ikea, very cheap and extremely useful! On the left hand side you see my bra's, color organized. This is the way to stow your bra's people! Don't fold them! On the right hand side you see my folded underwear. Regular hipsters/briefs in the top one, and thongs underneath.

And in the third and also last drawer I keep my bikini's and socks :-) I've folded the tops and put them in the right box and in the left box you see the swimwear bottoms. These organizers are the best! I really like to mix and match my swimwear so I didn't care about stowing tops and bottoms together.

How do you stow your stuff? Let me know! Hope you find this post useful!

FLYING: Glasgow

Hi kids, it's me, Shalane! I'm back! You remember me? It has been a while! I've been flying around like crazy and was on a 5 day trip without a laptop but WITH a camera, so when it comes to better late than never: my pictures!

The first stop was Glasgow, where we arrived in the evening. A friend decided to join me and went to Scotland for the first time. And since there was no reason whatsoever to wake up early the next morning, we had to discover the nightlife! And if I may say so, it's pretty awesome! We danced till 5 o'clock in clubs I can't remember the name of. But it was nice, loud, crazy and there are more words to describe a good night out.

The next morning we woke up a bit early and went downtown. We went to the Glasgow Cathedral which was pretty good but not very amazing. After a short and very necessary pitstop in a cafe we went to see the huge football stadium of Glasgow: Celtic Park, home of the Celtic football club. When it comes to football, I'm a girly girl: I don't care about it. But it was definitely fun to see!

We ended the day with a lovely dinner at the well known Jamie's (Oliver) Italian restaurant at the main square and headed to bed afterwards, alarmclock at 5.00AM!

Hope you like the pictures!

Shopping: Primark sale

While shopping at Primark is already extremely cheap, during sale it's almost for free! I went to Glasgow two weeks ago and absolutely love the Primark over there. It's huge! And their collection is totally different than it is in The Netherlands. I was looking for some cute and lightweight blouses which I can wear right now combined with a sweater but also during summer combined some cute shorts. And in Glasgow I ran into these two beauties! Just 5 pounds each, very cheap, right?

On the picture above you see my new ridicously cheap playsuit which I found in the Netherlands. Just 3 euro's, extremely cheap but yet so beautiful! Can't wait to wear it! The shorts are also found in Glasgow and were just 2 pounds, I was so suprised! I would love to wear the shorts together with the cute blouse with the dogs! Do you guys shop alot at primark? And already found some amazing bargains?

Shopping: Primark summer

Found this extremely cute bikini at Primark for the total price of just €12,-! Can you believe that? I can't wait to wear it at the beautiful beaches of Thailand. And yes, I'm going back this year! In may to be precise, for a three week trip with a friend. I'm really looking forward to go back and wear this cutie!

My second instagram diary! Unfortunately I don't have time to make it a weekly thing, but I do love instagram alot! And I also use it alot, already have over 500+ photos! So the pictures I collected this time are from let's say christmas till now. I've had a lovely diner at my friends place and saw old friends from Thailand and after newyears I had a diner with friends from work. My friend Maartje owns the cutest doggies in the world and they have their own airplane bed! How cute! Anyway, the last couple of weeks were pretty good!

Thriftshopping: new goodies

Hi everyone!
Time to show you my 'new' thriftstore goodies. I think my trip was very succesful! The black dress and soft pink playsuit are both H&M. The light blue/greenish dress is from a unknown brand and the blouse is vintage. Which one is your favorite?

Shopping: H&M Sale

I found some amazing things during the winter season sale. Thanks to my job, I'm able to visit great shops all around europe, but I found these two in The Netherlands, Amsterdam to be precise. I've been looking for a good dungaree for a long time. I already own a dungaree, but that one is actually too big, so will put it up for sale soon. This one is perfect and I love to combine it with the cute lace shirt!

Fashionable footwear with a conscience

There is no need to suffer for the sake of style this winter, as current footwear collections offer the opportunity to pamper your feet while remaining bang on-trend. A number of shoe brands are looking to comfort your tootsies in the coming months, promoting warmth and snugness with a healthy dash of fashionable credibility. What’s more, they’re also celebrating worthy causes such as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, bringing fashion and charity – as well as foot well-being – to the forefront of festive shopping.

UGG, for example, is currently offering a great range of sheepskin boots. While these iconic designs were originally intended to adorn the feet of surfers after they emerged from the cold coastal waters, they now warm up the soles of some of the trendiest people on earth.

After 10 years of retail in the UK, UGGs’ boots have gained huge popularity, coveted by celebrities and fashion-lovers alike. Importantly, though, this month the brand is also supporting the fight against breast cancer. The UGG autumn 2012 ladies’ range includes pink boots with a ribbon logo printed on the ankle; £10 from each purchase is then donated to the specialist therapy charity The Haven. If you’re conscious of worthy causes, then, and would like to promote some yourself through your fashion choices, this is the ideal place to go.

For those who care more about the finer points of style, you’re still in safe hands. Sheepskin boots are versatile footwear, allowing wearers to project both an informal or smarter look. A pair of leggings and an oversized T-shirt make a casual outfit that will happily show off your boots. Fearne Cotton has designed a long T-shirt printed with a stylish pair of hands (modelled on her own, complete with nail polish and tattoos), the sales proceeds of which go to the breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel!. You could pair the T-shirt with Adidas Pink Ribbon three-quarter running tights to complete the look.

The Christmas party season is known for throwing up a host of dilemmas when it comes to our choices of attire – none more so than our footwear. Luckily, you can treat yourself to a trendy new pair of shoes this year, support a worthy cause and skip through the winter blues in style with some sheepskin boots.

Outfit: NYC Gal

If I could only be a NYC Gal! I've never been to New York, but I'm dreaming about it! Hopefully I can make it happen in 2013! I would love to take my mum there, stroll around and shop like crazy (Victoria's Secret here I come!). So when I found this sweater at the mango store in Frankfurt, for just €20, I had to buy it!

So what's everybody up to? I'm getting crazy of my headache and the fever. I have this bloody headache all day now, and paracetamol is just helping for an hour. So I'm just again chilling around today, went outside to shoot these outfit pictures and went back inside quickly! Hot tea and lots of vegetables for the win!

Thriftshopping: new goodies

Black dress: Kling €1,80 // Dark grey dress: H&M €3,00

As most of my readers already know, I love thriftshopping. In the area where I live, there are a couple of good thriftstores where the prices are still reasonable. For some reason, I always find basically new stuff or clothes which are still from this season. I've already found amazing items but never featured them on my blog. This time I decided to show you the pieces I found last week while thrifting in Zaandam. I think the tiger print playsuit is from last season, but I don't care! Amazing item to bring with me for my summer holiday. Everything is basically still new and I also really love the black Kling dress with the pockets. Can you believe I payed €1,80 for that black beauty?

Black dress: Steps €1,80 // Playsuit: H&M €2,50

If you're in the Netherlands and you would like to visit a thriftstore, I highly recommend Noppes Zaandam. It's still a very cheap thriftstore with lots of clothes, shoes and bags. Besides that, it's also the place to find beautiful furniture. I also love to pimp little closets and I buy most of my furniture in thriftstores as well. Do you guys like thrifting?

Winter Wonderland

I flew home from Frankfurt this morning and I never realized I would end up in a magical white world! Seems like winter is finally here! I spend the night in Trondheim (sunday night) and Frankfurt (last night) and was already feeling sick for almost a week but decided to still go to work. Yesterday while we were descending into Frankfurt, I had difficulties with clearing my ears. And if we can't clear our ears, we have to report sick. And that's exactly what I did this morning. I decided to only fly back to Amsterdam (I actually had to do a Bristol up and down afterwards, but that one got cancelled due to the snowfall anyway).

So I went home, which also took quite some time since the public transport is totally f*cked up when there is heavy snowfall here in The Netherlands. But I made it! Safe and sound back home. Still feeling sick but had to go outside to see and walk in the snow! I'm back inside now, and while I'm sneezing the heck out of myself, I'm updating my blog. I hope you like the pictures of this beautiful white world and my red nose (and the outfit ofcourse!).

Happy new hair

After 2 years of not seeing a hairdresser, it was time to cut it. Don't get me wrong, I always cut it myself, because I really HATE the hairdresser. They do basically everything you don't want them to. And they charge you an insane amount of money for f*cking up your hair. Anyway, that's the reason I decided to do it myself, and so I did for the last 2 years. Which was always kind of okay-ish, but a week ago I decided it was time for something a bit more drastical: cut of 5cms of my hair.

I decided to hand the scissors over to my mother, so she could cut of the dead ends of my hair. And she did! Afterwards I decided to dye my hair a couple of shades darker. The last time I dyed it was over a year ago. But thanks to the beautiful sunshine in Thailand I became a natural blonde (with a few grey hairs, WTF, I'm 23...). Anyway, this is the new me: my hair a bit shorter and a bit darker. What do you think? And what do you think about the outfit? Let me know! :)

Belated New Years resolutions

Let me start with apologizing for my absence the past few weeks. I can't seem to figure out how I can blog and fly at the same time. When I'm in the hotel, I sure have enough time for blogging, but I also want to take pictures or go on adventures where I can blog about... It's not simple, but I hope I can do a better job in 2013.

And while everyone around me got the flu, I was hoping I had a lucky escape from it. But I should have known better... I suppose I deserved it after weeks of junkfood, flying around in a metal tube at 33.000ft with people from all over the world and being fatique for quite some time. But I'm still too busy in my head, even right now, to just stay in bed all day. Perfect time for some blogging about new years resolutions, something I should have done 11 days ago, but hey, who cares?

The past 11 days of 2013 haven't been that amazing to start with. In 11 days I ate 4 times pizza, 4 times pasta, 2 times french fries and 1 day healthy. I didn't do any workout whatsoever and had a nice red wine almost every day. Let's say I start with my resolutions tomorrow...

1. Eating healthy
This can actually be quite a challenge when one loves pizza, pasta and chips. I skipped a lot of veggies and fruit in december, which is paying of right now as we speak (thanks to the flu). Besides that, when you eat in a restaurant 4 times a week, it's also very difficult to go for the 'healthy' things, while the hamburger is screaming my name... But I'm going to give it a try. I'll eat more salads, veggies and fruits.

Exercise
I don't gain any weight. I can eat pizza for three days in a row and can see the same amount of kilo's on the scale as I noticed three days ago. But I really, really need to start exercising again. Back in high school, my condition was really good. While doing our weekly rounds at the field, I ran togheter with the boys because it was easy for me to run their speed. So don't know yet how I'm going to do it (a gym is pretty expensive), but I will start exercising!

Blog more
Easy does it, huh? Just takes some time. But I love my blog and blogging in general. Hope 2013 will be my year.

FLYING: Venetië

We arrived with sunshine, blue skies and 8 degrees yesterday. My three day trip started in Glasgow where I had the best anti pasti ever. Know Jamie Oliver? He has his own restaurant, make sure to pay a visit when you're in the UK! Anyway, also did a little bit of shopping... which wasn't planned, but when I noticed the huge Primark they have over there, I couldn't resist.

Yesterday we arrived around noon in Venice. Like I said before, beautiful weather. And so 80% of my pictures turned out to be almost perfect (to me at least). We strolled around, all the way from the trainstation via the rialto bridge to the San Marco square. With some little pitstops every now and then for the necessary antipasti and red wine. And when we reached San Marco, it was all covered in a thick layer of fog. Was strange to see and it turned out to be pretty cold. But the day was amazing, we had a lot of fun and when we got back at the hotel (which is located in a village close to Venice) we had the best pizza ever. I took lots of pictures, enjoy!

Luck was on my side

The first day of january started amazing! I recieved an email that I was the lucky winner of a nice ladurée present... I recently joined a giveaway at Anna's blog and I really can't believe that I won! So just two days later, the postman got me my suprise!

You can be who you want to be

Hello precious sunshines,
I hope you are all doing fine and that you started the new year in a great way! Hopefully with lots of kisses, love and luck. I'm in between trips, busy as always and I think I'm the only blogger around who has no new years resolutions or a recap of the last year. Even though I would love to make a recap and post my resolutions, I couldn't find the time yet.

I've been flying a lot lately. And on one side, I really love my job ofcourse, but sometimes it's hard to be away from home for a long time. Especially during these special days. And now I'm again sort off packing my suitcase, because tomorrow in the early morning my 3 day trip starts. I'm looking forward to it, but I wish I had more time for my other passion: blogging!Anyway, I made a new layout, what do you think of it? I'm still waiting for a new layout done by a professional though... It's time to give my precious blog a professional touch...

And about the outfit: I'm wearing my DIY celine top, combined it with a nice thrifted blazer and I'm showing my new zara coat. Let me know what you think!
