FLYING: Monaco

Hi allemaal!

Gotta love the south of france!

Hi all!

Spring has sprung in the Netherlands, love it! But last week, when the skies were grey in the lower lands of Holland, I was lucky enough to have a layover in Nice (I work as a flight attendant). And from there I took the train to the beautiful and surreal Monaco!

It was just a 10 to 15 minute trainride, but as soon as you disembark you're in a completely different world. Beautiful, extremely expensive boats, amazing apartments and a really cool casino: Monaco has it all. It really is the lifestyle of the rich and famous, a fairytale world itself. Too good to be true and especially very surreal and unrealistic. I could and would never afford anything you can find there. But it is a lot of fun to see though!

We walked through the famous 'formula 1' tunnel, along the expensive boats and we absolutely loved the famous casino (from the James bond movie). Besides that we walked up to the castle to enjoy the magnificent view. Gotta love the south of France!

FLYING: Nice

Hallo lieve allemaal,

Hi dear all,

Last week I had my so called 'reserve duty'. Once every 6 weeks we have a week (5 days) of standby where the company can call us for a flight for 12 hours a day. In case they need me for a flight, I need to be at the airport within one hour.

The first day of reserve duty was nice and relaxed, no phonecalls whatsoever. But during the second day they called me at the end of the day for a 4 day trip with layovers in Nice, Lyon and Sandefjord Torp. A lot of flights, but there was a little bit of time to relax as well. In Nice I had a very short stop, I arrived very late in the evening and pick up time the next day was 11.30 AM.

I woke up early and went outside after breakfast to wander around in the old city of Nice. I walked towards the beach and back via the beautiful park to the hotel. It was the perfect morning and it's very relaxed to walk for a bit just before a long day at work with 4 flights. Anyway, I'm wearing a dress which I found in the thriftstore a few weeks ago. It was just 4 euros and it's originally from Warehouse and exactly my size! What do you think?

FLYING: Florence

Hi lieve allemaal,

Hi dear all,

About two weeks ago I had an afternoon in Florence thanks to my work as a flight attendant. I have been there before, but only from Bologna. But this time we were actually flying to Florence and nightstopping in Florence! The hotel is just perfect and close to the city.

Together with the crew I enjoyed a nice italian lunch and discovered all the must see's in town. I had to go to bed early because the alarmclock was set for 4AM the next morning. But Florence is super cool and amazing and everything in between. It was pretty cloudy that day, but during sunset the clouds disappeared, it was just magic.

FLYING: Stewardess vlog Toulouse

Hi lieve allemaal,

Hi dear all,
Here it is: my pride! I filmed, edit and uploaded a video. It's just a short outfit video which I made during a morning in Toulouse, France. And I can't wait to here what you think! Will you let me know?

FLYING: Lyon

Remember I told you my boyfriend and I were on a luxurious work trip TOGETHER? So 4 days of flying together? That's pretty amazing! Our last day of the trip was in Lyon, France. It's a place where we both have been many times before, and also two times together as well.

And we both do love Lyon! So many good places to eat and to see! We both enjoy cycling, and since the hotel offers the bikes for free (renting ofcourse) we always go by bike to the city center. I just love cycling and following the river all the way up to the main square (place bellecour).

We spend our day eating, cycling and sightseeing. The sunset was again pretty amazing and I took a lot of pictures during that time of the day. Have you been to Lyon before? And do you like it?

FLYING: Sandefjord

Two weeks ago I flew to Sandefjord Torp, a beautiful city in Norway. It was a sunny afternoon and I wandered around in the city and harbor. I walked up a hill and discovered a beautiful lake and an amazing view point too. It was a quiet afternoon and the perfect weather to enjoy the sunset.

Being in Norway quite a lot thanks to my job as a flight attendant makes me appreciate the nature and wilderness even more than I did before. It's my medicine to become relaxed and zen after a busy day at work. Just looking at something so beautiful or walking around and breathing in the fresh forest air. And Norway is super close to perfection. Too bad the days are short during this time of the year. I took a lot of pictures, which I hope you enjoy! :)

“ It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement;
the greatest source of visual beauty;
the greatest source of intellectual interest.
It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living. ”

FLYING: Spending time together

"Choose a job you love and you will
never have to work a day in your life."

While I love my job more than almost anything else, spending time with the ones I love is the thing I love and enjoy the most. Because it's so much more important than my job as a flight attendant. But what is more perfect when these two things are combined?

Just a week before christmas my boyfriend -who's a pilot (first officer)- and I flew together. The cockpit door was the only thing that separated us, and our little 4 day trip was pretty perfect! We requested an early trip to Prague, Bologna and Lyon and by suprise we both got this trip!

It's very difficult for us to fly together. We do work for the same airline, but whereas he's only flying the embraer, I fly another aircraft (fokker70) as well. And therefor my roster has more options and more variety than his. So we had to look closely and finally found the perfect 'pairing' we could fly together.

I do love my job, I can't imagine a life without flying, but I do miss my time at home every now and then. I love spending time with my mom, my boyfriend and my friends. But sometimes it's very hard to have days off in the weekend or to have a day off at someones birthday. I'm away for 4 nights a week most of the time, making it very difficult to maintain a blog as well. But I manage, I do what I can and I do it with love.

FLYING: Praag

During a cold winterafternoon, just a couple of days before christmas, the boyfriend and I started a little trip together. He's a pilot, a first officer to be precise and as most of you know I'm a cabin attendant. It's not very common that we fly together. We do request it a lot, but it never seems to work, until now.

He's not only my love but also my colleague, and it makes it even more fun to fly together! During our first day at work we flew to Prague, where we arrived around 2PM. It was a bit grey but that couldn't stop us from exploring this beautiful city!

We got a taxi up to the castle and walked all the way down, via the bridge to the main square. We enjoyed a hot wine at the local christmas market and had diner with the other crewmembers at italian restaurant 'pasta fresca' which was delicious! Prague is so beautifully decorated around christmas. The lights everywhere, the amazing christmastree on the square: it is just all so perfect! Prague is the best destination for a short weekend trip! Have you been to Prague before?

FLYING: Stavanger

Hi dear all,

I'm fully back to work after my holiday in South Africa. And my roster was not too bad: I had a 24 hour layover in Stavanger, Norway. To make some things clear: I'm a flight attendant, for those of you who read my blog for the first time. :-)

Stavanger is a very beautiful city! I wanted to go to preikestolen (the amazing viewing point in the fjords) but this was not an option since it's getting dark really early and the hike was 2 hours just one way. Hopefully oneday during the summer. For now I just strolled around, had diner with the crew and enjoyed the beautiful citycenter of Stavanger.

The lake is also very beautiful. They have a huge tree and decorated it with a lot of red hearts, super romantic! I hope you like the pictures :)

FLYING: Trondheim

Hi dear all,

Two weeks ago it was time to enjoy the autumn colors of Trondheim, Norway. As a flight attendant I'm going on nightstops/layovers several times a week. This nightstop was pretty perfect: we took a tram to go up to the mountains to see a beautiful lake.

I've been to Trondheim already a couple of times, and I'm always in for something fun. Since it was not my firs time here, I'm pretty familiar with the city itself and the highlights. But I've never heard of this lake or that you can take a tram into the mountains, this was all new stuff for me! And it was a great experience!

The ride itself was amazing: such a beautiful view! If you want to do the same: take the tram and go to the final stop 'Lian'. The lake was gorgeous and the orange colored trees looked so beautiful, it was a breathtaking view!

FLYING: Bristol

Hello everyone!

Finally, after a year without , I had a nightstop/layover in Bristol, UK. I already wrote about Bristol and how much I love it a while ago, so it was good to be back.

So why is it exactly that I love this british destination so much? Well let me start telling you about the shops: they have EVERYTHING. A HUGE primark with stuff you can't buy in the Netherlands. Besides that they have an urban outfitters, topshop, dorothy perkins and many many more. And it's all just around the corner of my hotel: perfect!

I also love the food: they have several good restaurants but I prefer going to Wagamama's or Jamie's Italian (jumjum!). But there are so many restaurants it's hard to make a decission! Anyway, during a sunny day you can chill in the park. It's a beautiful park and again, very close to my hotel. During the evening the squirrels will start squirreling around. So cute! They are not afraid of the people, so it's super fun to see them looking for food.

So yes, it was an absolute pleasure to be back in Bristol, I just love my job as a flight attendant!

FLYING: Alesund

Hi cuties,

Two weeks ago I had the pleasure to nightstop in Alesund, Norway. Eventhough it was just a short layover (arriving at 5PM and departing the next day at 5AM) I did make the most out of it!

Alesund is almost two hours away from Amsterdam (by plane ofcourse) and is located in the northern part of Norway. It's such a beautiful city which is known for it's Art Nouveau architecture. I walked around for a while and watched the sunset from the top of the hill, which is a popular viewing point.

Because I'm a flight attendant, I don't have a lot of opportunities to look outside the window of the airplane. But this flight wasn't really full, so I had the change to watch the beautiful fjords shortly before landing. Besides that, as you probably already have guessed, I took a bunch of pictures from the citycenter as well. I hope you enjoy Norway as much as I do, I would love to go back :)

FLYING: Beaulieu Sur Mer

Hi sweethearts,

Remember I told you about my nighstop in Nice? I spend the morning in Nice, but during the afternoon I took the train to Beaulieu sur mer, mainly because I wanted to see Saint Jean Cap Ferrat.

There wasn't enough time to see Cap Ferrat completely, but I definitely enjoyed my afternoon with walking around and watching the people and the beautiful houses. I love the south of France and would love to have my own french house over there. I found a magazine with beautiful french houses: way too expensive but hey, a girl can dream, right?

FLYING: Nice

Hi sweethearts,

Remember I told you life as a flight attendant is not always unicorns and rainbows? Well: I flew to Nice a couple of weeks ago and that very long day off in the south of France helped me to realise and remember how amazing my job actually is!

I haven't been to Nice in ages, the last time I was there was in the old airport hotel, during my birthday. Since then, the company moved us to another hotel in the citycenter: pretty perfect. So it was the very first time for me to see the new hotel and the new area and I absolutely love it! It's super close to all the good places and the old center!

And with 30 degrees celcius it was the perfect day to enjoy the rooftop pool. But I decided to do something different: I woke up early to climb up to the Castle Hill to enjoy the best view! Afterwards I strolled around in the old city before I took the train to the beach. More about the beach later, first my pictures of Nice!

FLYING: Bordeaux

Hi dear readers,

Today is the day my brother gets married. Yeah, friday the 13th, strange date isn't it? But it's the day he met his wife-to-be years ago. So while I'm preparing for a lovely day, I'll show you pictures of Bordeaux, where I was two weeks ago.

It was a bright and sunny day, with temperatures above 30 degrees celcius. My pick up time was around 3.30PM, so I woke up early to walk around in this beautiful city. After hitting some shops I walked to the river empty-handed. I have this thing that I can't buy any clothes/accesoiries/anything else for the upcoming month and I'm still going strong :)

Anyway, I was sitting in front of this beautiful building enjoying the sun and a perrier. It was a lovely day in Bordeaux and I hope you like my pictures :)

FLYING: Bologna

Bologna oh Bologna. Finally I'm back. I was already afraid that it would be a summer without Italy, but thank goodness Bologna was on my roster, with plenty of time to spend!

But it was sunday, during the summer holidays, and the city was basically empty. No market, no shops, nothing! But there was delicious food and beautiful buildings, so I hope you like the pictures :)

FLYING: Landshut

I haven't been to Landshut (Munich) for a long time, so it was great to be back! As a flight attendant, I'm always flying to different destinations in europe. And sometimes you fly to a destination a couple of times, and sometimes you won't see it on your roster for a couple of months. That's what makes it fun and interesting.

Landshut is just a small and cute german village in the middle of nowhere. They have a castle on top of the hill and by accident I ran into a 'tierpark' also known as a small zoo. So cute! The castle is surrounded by a forest, and while I was walking back to my hotel, I had eye to eye contact with Bambi! She (or he) ran away ofcourse, but I followed her and took some pictures. Ofcourse the pictures are not very good, but I hope you enjoy them :)

Have you already checked out my webshop Belmont Vintage? Besides that, if you find it interesting, you can also follow me via instagram (shalane89) and facebook.

FLYING: Lyon

I wrote a little love poem about lyon a couple of months ago, and I'm finally back! But men oh men, it was bloody hot, 38 degrees hot. Too hot to be in the hotel pool filled with kids, so I took the bike to the city center and cycled around. It's such a beautiful city, and luckily I got some company from two other crew members.

After a nice carpaccio we cycled back to the hotel and went to bed early. But our day in Lyon was very lovely! Have you every been to Lyon?

FLYING: Canterbury

Our company has a new destination: Manston/Kent and with that comes a new nightstop: Canterbury! And lucky me, just a few months after the companies official first flight, I had my first flight to Manston as well!

We arrived early that day, so plenty of time to discover this cute little city! And yes: it is officially a city, the Zara, H&M, Topshop and more UK goodies makes it complete. So we strolled around for a while and saw the old ruïn, the park, the church and the cute old houses. But Canterbury has even more to offer.

Our hotel is pretty as well: a boutique hotel in an old building but completely refurnished. The bedroom was massive, clean and very cosy! I loved my bed, it was HUGE! And they have the cutest soaps as well :) I had the best time in Canterbury, and the summer temperatures helped a lot as well!

FLYING: Toulouse

Many times I've visited Toulouse but I still discover new and amazing places each time. Today I rented a bike (you can get your velo at so many places in town, it's a bike-heaven!) And the bike makes it so easy to discover the city!

Lucky me, I arrived around 11 o'clock in Toulouse and had the complete afternoon and evening to spend. While the other crew members went to the swimmingpool, I went to a local flea market and enjoyed all the good french things in life. It was bloody hot, 35 degrees centigrade, but the town is so lovely when the skies are blue.

After a couple of hours on the bike, I ended my afternoon at the riverside enjoying the beautiful view. I had diner at Mac Donalds: easy peasy but I love it... And went to bed early! This was by far the best day of my 5 day trip for work. I love Toulouse, and will go back next week! :)
